Brain Supplements: Evidence, Ingredients & How to Compare Them
Brain supplements range from vitamins and herbs to choline compounds and multi-ingredient nootropic formulas. The important question is not whether a label sounds scientific, but whether the evidence matches the ingredient, dose, population and outcome.

Start with the goal
Memory, attention, fatigue and general healthy aging are not interchangeable outcomes. A study relevant to one does not automatically support another.
Look for transparent doses
Transparent labels let you compare actual amounts with amounts used in research. Proprietary blends make that harder.
Separate deficiency correction from enhancement
A nutrient can be essential to normal brain function without extra supplementation improving cognition in someone who already has adequate status.
Treat finished formulas as finished formulas
Evidence for several individual ingredients does not automatically prove the combined commercial product works. Look for product-specific trials when strong outcome claims are made.
